Speaker: Moldova respected and awaited in EU

Speaker Igor Grosu said that the visit of European leaders to Chisinau on Moldova's Independence Day confirms the firm support of the European Union for the country's European path.

“The message from Moldova's three friends – Emmanuel Macron, Friedrich Merz and Donald Tusk – is clear: Moldova is respected and awaited in the European Union,” Igor Grosu said.

The Speaker emphasized that the presence in Chisinau of President of France, Chancellor of Germany and Prime Minister of Poland is a recognition of the efforts made by the Republic of Moldova on its path toward European integration.

Three of Europe's most influential leaders – President of France Emmanuel Macron, Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz and Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk – arrived yesterday on Independence Day in Chisinau to send a strong message of support for Moldova's European integration process. The three leaders addressed messages to thousands of Moldovans gathered at the concert organized on the Great National Assembly Square.

Emmanuel Macron delivered a speech in Romanian, wearing a badge with the flag of the Republic of Moldova on his chest. The French official was cheered and applauded for several minutes by the citizens present in the PMAN.

“Tomorrow, our European Union will be stronger together with Moldova, and Moldova will itself be stronger and more prosperous in Europe. Together, we will write a new chapter in the history of Moldova and Europe,” said Macron.

Donald Tusk also delivered a speech in Romanian.

“You have shown the world that Moldova lives by our common values, European values: freedom, democracy, solidarity. Do not let Russia return here. Do not squander what you have built,” Tusk declared.

Friedrich Merz congratulated the Moldovans for the courage and reforms.

On 27 August, the Republic of Moldova marked 34 years since the proclamation of Independence.
