Authorities in Moldova and Ukraine coordinate actions to manage incident on Dniester River
The authorities of the Republic of Moldova have initiated direct discussions with the competent institutions in Ukraine to clarify the circumstances of the reported pollution incident on the Dniester River and to coordinate the necessary measures for managing the situation.
According to the Ministry of Environment, State Secretary Victoria Gratii, together with representatives of several responsible institutions, has been in dialogue with the Ukrainian authorities since the early hours of the morning in order to determine exactly how the incident occurred and to identify the most effective intervention solutions.
The discussions involve specialists from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the "Apele Moldovei" Agency, the Environmental Protection Inspectorate and the Environment Agency. Teams from these institutions are analyzing the available data, exchanging information with partners in Ukraine and coordinating the necessary actions to limit the impact on the environment and water resources.
The authorities emphasize that the dialogue with the Ukrainian side aims at quickly establishing the circumstances of the incident, as well as implementing coordinated measures to monitor the situation and remedy any consequences.
"Cross-border cooperation is essential in such cases, given that the Dniester River is a shared resource for several states in the region," the environmental authority explains.
In parallel, the responsible institutions in the Republic of Moldova continue to closely monitor the situation, including through the collection and analysis of water samples, in order to assess the evolution of the phenomenon and to ensure the protection of the environment and the population.
The authorities announce that they will continue cooperation with regional partners and will keep the public informed about the development of the situation and the measures undertaken to manage the incident.
