Parliament appoints new deputy ombudsperson

Olesea Doronceanu was appointed today by the lawmakers as Deputy Ombudsperson for the remaining period of the current mandate.

The appointment follows the resignation request submitted by Oxana Gumennaia from this position.

Olesea Doronceanu has over 20 years of professional experience in the human rights protection. She has also held a lawyer’s license for 18 years and, throughout her career, has handled civil and criminal cases involving human rights violations. Currently, Doronceanu heads the Directorate for Examination of Complaints and Protection of Persons within the Ombudsperson’s Office.

According to the legislation, the Ombudsperson is assisted in the activity by two deputies, who hold positions of public dignity. They are appointed by Parliament, with the vote of the majority of the deputies present, at the proposal of the Ombudsperson.

Ombudsperson Ceslav Panico was appointed to office on 3 February 2022.
