VIDEO // Authorities intervene on Dniester early morning: filters installed and new water analyses

The situation regarding water pollution in the Dniester River is being continuously monitored by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, and interventions to limit the effects began as early as this morning. According to the Minister of Environment, Gheorghe Hajder, specialized teams are working directly in the field to stop the spread of pollutants and to constantly check water quality.

As part of the intervention actions, special absorption filters have been installed to stop the spread of oil slicks and help remove them from the water. At the same time, the reference laboratory is to collect new samples directly on site to verify water quality parameters and monitor how the situation is evolving.

The Minister of Environment stated that the authorities are acting in accordance with established procedures and that there is constant coordination between the responsible institutions. At the same time, the official announced that this morning there will be a joint meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, who will join the monitoring actions and collect water samples on their territory. Romania has also expressed its readiness to support the Republic of Moldova with the necessary equipment for managing the situation.

“Today we will have a joint meeting with our colleagues from Ukraine, who will join our action and collect samples on their side. And Romania is ready to help us with the necessary equipment,” said Gheorghe Hajder.

Water supply restored in several localities According to the Minister of Environment, several localities in the north of the country have already resumed their drinking water supply following checks carried out by the authorities. These include the municipality of Bălți, as well as the towns of Soroca, Sângerei and Florești. The official emphasized that state institutions are applying clear intervention and safety protocols, and the medical system has well-established procedures for managing such situations. No danger for Chișinău The Minister of Environment rejected alarmist information that has appeared in the public space, noting that official data and laboratory test results show there is no danger to the water supply of the municipality of Chișinău.

According to him, the oil slick identified in the Dniester River is at a considerable distance from the water intake station that supplies the capital.

“At this moment, there is no risk for Chișinău. The oil identified is at a considerable distance from the capital’s water intake station,” the minister said.

Analyses carried out at the intake station also indicate that water quality parameters are within the permitted limits, with laboratory results confirming its safety. Preventive measures and regional cooperation The authorities have introduced additional monitoring and intervention measures, and specialized teams continue to install and check filtration systems to limit pollution.

At the same time, medical institutions are applying standard precautionary protocols, which include maintaining water reserves for operational needs. The Minister of Environment explained that these measures are routine safety procedures and do not indicate an imminent danger.

Management of the situation also involves cooperation with regional partners. In addition to collaboration with Ukraine for the collection and analysis of water samples, Romania has expressed its willingness to support the Republic of Moldova with technical equipment.

Minister Gheorghe Hajder called for responsibility in public communication, emphasizing that information about the situation on the Dniester must be based on confirmed data and scientific results, not on speculation. The authorities will continue permanent monitoring of the water quality in the Dniester River and will inform the population depending on how the situation develops and on the results of the analyses carried out.
