China reaffirms support for Moldova, pledges to expand economic cooperation

China treats Moldova as an equal partner and will continue to support the economic and social development of the country. The chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Chisinau, Wang Lyuxin, made statements to this effect at the reception organized today evening, on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the proclamation of the People's Republic of China.

The Chinese official emphasized that, throughout the 33 years of diplomatic relations, friendship and cooperation had stayed the cornerstones of the bilateral partnership, despite international changes.

“China has maintained continuity and stability in its foreign policy, treating Moldova as an equal partner. Both sides fully respect each other's social systems and chosen paths of development, providing unwavering support on issues concerning national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” said Wang.

The diplomat highlighted that the People's Republic of China had become Moldova's third commercial partner, noting the increase in imports of Moldovan products to the Chinese market and the interest of Chinese enterprises to invest in Moldova. This year, the two countries signed a protocol regarding the export of grape seeds and sunflower flour from Moldova to China. Moreover, more investment projects are under negotiation and the volume of bilateral trade is expected to reach a record level in 2025.

Wang Lyuxin noted that, this week, Chinese companies were participating in Moldova Business Week, in order to identify new cooperation opportunities.

“China is ready to work with Moldova, in order to continuously strengthen practical cooperation in all fields and to write a new chapter in the friendship between China and Moldova,” the official added.

Present at the event, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Doina Nistor said that the relations between Moldova and China were based on mutual respect, constructive dialogue and growing economic cooperation.

The official highlighted that, in 2024, China had become Moldova's third commercial partner, with a share of almost 10 per cent of the total volume of trade. Additionally, 83 Chinese companies are already active on the Moldovan market, providing a “solid foundation for expanding investments and joint projects.”

In her speech, Doina Nistor highlighted the concrete results of the collaboration, including the launch of a 20 million-dollars-worth green mobility project in Straseni and the delivery of 1,000 electric cars for the taxi sector in Moldova. The deputy PM also advocated for the wider opening of the Chinese market for Moldovan products, especially wines, fruits and nuts, which “can bring added value to Chinese consumers.”

“Moldova is committed to creating a stable, predictable and open business environment for its partners. We are ready to work hand in hand with China, in order to diversify cooperation and transform opportunities into shared prosperity,”  Doina Nistor said.

The People's Republic of China was proclaimed on October 1, 1949. Moldova and the People's Republic of China established diplomatic relations on January 30, 1992. China is currently one of Moldova's main trading partners, with increasing Moldovan exports to the Chinese market, especially in the agricultural sector. At the same time, Chinese companies are exploring investment opportunities in infrastructure, technology and production in Moldova.
