MEP describes Russia's interference in Moldova's elections as start of pandemic

A member of the European Parliament, Siegfried Muresan, warns that the Russian Federation's interference in the parliamentary elections in Moldova represents a threat to the entire Europe.

"Russia's interference in the elections in Moldova is like the start of a pandemic. If we do not stop it now, it will spread across Europe," said Muresan.

According to him, the Kremlin is investing unprecedented resources and using cutting-edge technology to influence the outcome of the September 28 elections: content created with artificial intelligence and distributed by bots, electoral bribery transferred via cryptocurrencies directly from Moscow.

"These are just a few of the innovative ways used by the Kremlin to influence the elections in Moldova. Moldova and Ukraine are just testing grounds. The rest of Europe will follow. The goal is clear: to influence elections, promote pro-Russian politicians and undermine democracies," emphasized the MEP.

Muresan called for European unity in the face of these challenges.

"Moldova's fight is our fight as well. If Moldova wins and remains European and democratic, all of Europe wins. If it loses, we all lose. European democracies must unite to deliver the antidote to the interference initiated by Russia at our borders," Siegfried Muresan added.

Parliamentary elections will take place in Moldova on September 28.
