EU Ambassador to Moldova says European Union committed to support independent media, civil society's organizations

The European Union maintains its commitment to support the independent media and civil society’s organizations in combating misinformation and promoting investigative journalism, in order to make sure that Moldovan citizens have access to accurate and reliable information. Head of the EU Delegation in Moldova, Ambassador Janis Mazeiks has made statements to this effect.

The official condemned the ‘’violent attacks and recent online defamation campaign against independent media and civil society’s organizations’’ and emphasized that ’’freedom of expression and unhindered activity of journalists are essential elements of a healthy democracy.’’

‘’I firmly condemn the violent attacks and the recent online defamation campaign against independent media and civil society’s organizations, including a worrying trend of using the issue of foreign funding to stigmatize journalists and activists, undermining their reliability and essential role in the society. Acts of intimidation, threats, defamation and spreading false information against journalists and civil society’s organizations are punishable by law and must be promptly investigated and sanctioned,’’ said Janis Mazeiks.

EU Ambassador to Moldova Janis Mazeiks reiterated that ‘’the European Union maintains its commitment to support independent media and civil society’s organizations in combating misinformation and promoting investigative journalism, in order to make sure that Moldovan citizens have access to accurate and reliable information.’’
