Austria’s National Day was marked in Chisinau with an official reception held at the Palace of the Republic, attended by approximately 300 guests, including Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi. The event highlighted bilateral relations and Austria’s support for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova.

In her speech, Austria’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Martina Hermann presented her country’s priorities for its term as a member of the United Nations Security Council in 2027–2028, emphasizing its commitment to multilateralism, international law and the rule of law.

The diplomat welcomed the Republic of Moldova’s progress in the European Union accession process and highlighted cooperation between the two countries in areas such as the economy, education, healthcare, defence and internal affairs.

For his part, Mihai Popșoi praised Moldovan-Austrian relations and thanked Austria for its support for the Republic of Moldova’s European path.

The economic component of the event was complemented by the business mission “Market Opportunities in the Republic of Moldova 2026,” held from 20 to 22 October. Austrian companies came to the country to explore investment and trade opportunities. In this context, a Refocus network event was also organized in cooperation with the Austrian Trade Office in Bucharest.

The festive atmosphere was enhanced by a musical programme performed by the Orchestra of the General Inspectorate of Carabiners of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, conducted by maestro Oleg Cazacu.

Austria’s National Day is celebrated annually on 26 October.
