Funding for research, innovation increases in Moldova in 2026, exceeds half a billion lei

State funding for research and innovation will increase in 2026 and exceed half a billion lei. More precisely, the value of resources has risen this year by about 47 million lei, from 511 million to almost 558 million lei.

According to the Education and Research Ministry (MEC), the funds will reach 20 public institutions active in the fields of research and innovation.

The largest allocations were got by the Moldova State University – over 274 million lei; the Technical University of Moldova – 73 million lei and the National Institute for Applied Research in Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine – 48 million lei.

Budget allocations are distributed in accordance with the provisions of the Institutional Funding Methodology for public-law organizations in the fields of research and innovation and are divided into basic institutional funding – about 491 million lei, complementary funding – about 33.5 million lei and compensatory funding based on performance indicators – about 33.5 million lei.

Through the National Programme in the fields of research and innovation for 2024–2027, as well as through other normative acts, the MEC has committed to increasing the quality and attractiveness of research and innovation. This will be made through investments aimed at ensuring the continuous modernization of public organizations in the field, competitive salaries and opportunities for national and international collaboration for researchers.
