Government approves new regulation for Environmental Inspectorate
Citizens will be able to report cases of pollution, illegal logging or unauthorized waste dumping more quickly, after the Government today approved the new Regulation on the organization and functioning of the Environmental Protection Inspectorate.
According to the Ministry of Environment, one of the main changes introduced by the reform is the creation of the Environmental Incident Rapid Response Center, a subdivision that will operate permanently, around the clock, including weekends and holidays.
Thus, environmental inspectors will be able to intervene outside the usual working hours, and citizens will be able to immediately report cases that affect the environment, without having to wait for the next working day.
The authorities state that the new measures will ensure faster services, greater transparency and a more efficient response in cases involving air, water or soil pollution, damage to forests or other violations that may endanger the health of communities.
At the same time, the Environmental Protection Inspectorate will benefit from upgraded digital tools that will allow clearer monitoring of each reported case, from the filing of the complaint to its resolution. The reform also provides for clarifying the institution’s responsibilities, adjusting its internal structure and strengthening its intervention capacities in cases of violation of environmental legislation.
