VIDEO // Moldova’s leadership lays flowers at Monument to Stephen the Great and Holy, marking 35 years of Independence
President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Vasile Tofan today laid wreaths at the monument to Stephen the Great and Holy in Chisinau, on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of the Independence of the Republic of Moldova.
The solemn ceremony was attended by MPs, government members, law enforcement bodies and veterans of the Transnistria War, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Moldova, ethnic organizations, as well as citizens and guests of the capital.
The laying of flowers was followed by the performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Moldova.
Earlier, the officials also laid flowers at the Grieving Mother monument, erected in memory of the heroes who fell defending the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova.
The flower-laying ceremonies marked the start of events dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Moldova. Activities dedicated to this day are taking place in Chisinau and in localities across the country throughout the day.
In Chisinau, Presidents of Romania and Ukraine, Nicusor Dan and Volodymyr Zelensky, are also expected, having been invited by Maia Sandu to take part in the events dedicated to Independence Day.
