Residents of Gagauzia autonomy to go to polls on November 15 to elect deputies to People’s Assembly; Moldovan Central Electoral Commission establishes allocation of 35 seats
The residents of the Gagauzia Autonomous Territorial Unit (UTA Gagauzia) are expected at the polls on November 15, 2026, in order to elect deputies to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has established how the 35 seats would be distributed among the localities in the region.
According to the CEC, the municipality of Comrat will have four deputy seats, the municipality of Ceadar-Lunga – three seats, and the town of Vulcanesti – three seats.
The localities of Congaz and Copceac will each receive two seats. The other localities will have one seat each.
In total, the 35 seats are distributed across 26 administrative-territorial units that are part of UTA Gagauzia.
According to the CEC, the allocation of seats was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Law on the Special Legal Status of Gagauzia. Under this law, the numerical composition of the People’s Assembly is established based on the number of voters, with one deputy for every 5,000 voters, on the condition that each locality has at least one deputy.
According to data from the State Register of Voters, valid as of August 26, 2026, there are 129,315 registered voters in the administrative and territorial units that form part of UTA Gagauzia.
The electoral campaign for elections to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia will start on16 October 16, 2026. On August 26, 2026, Law No. 192/2026 amending the Electoral Code No. 325/2022 was published in the Official Journal No. 394–397. The new regulations ensure the integration of regional elections into the national electoral system and strengthen the role of the Central Electoral Commission in ensuring their organization and conduct.
The People’s Assembly of Gagauzia (PAG) is made up of 35 deputies, elected directly by citizens for a four-year term. The PAG is the legislative authority of the autonomy and has powers in adopting local normative acts, approving the budget, setting development programmes and exercising oversight over the executive authorities.
