LIVE // Military Parade in Chisinau on Independence Day: over 2,000 troops, 100 equipment pieces on Great National Assembly Square
The Republic of Moldova is marking 35 years since the proclamation of Independence with a Military Parade held on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN). More than 2,000 troops and employees of law enforcement institutions, 150 veterans, as well as color guard groups from eight partner countries are taking part in the march. Citizens can also admire over 100 units of military and special equipment. The parade is attended by President Maia Sandu, together with the President of Romania Nicusor Dan, on a visit to Chisinau.
The parade brings together over 2,000 soldiers and representatives of the security structures, as well as 150 veterans of the war for the country’s independence and territorial integrity, who will march in two formations. In addition, the parade features color guard groups made up of soldiers from Romania, Ukraine, Lithuania, Italy, Poland, France, the Czech Republic and the United States of America.
At the parade, the authorities have displayed 100 units of military and special equipment, purchased both from the national defense budget and through assistance programmes provided by external partners. Among them, there are: light infantry weapons, self-propelled artillery systems, anti-aircraft installations, systems for monitoring and protecting the national airspace and special-purpose military vehicles in service with the National Army and the Interior Ministry.
The Republic of Moldova is celebrating today 35 years since the proclamation of Independence. On this occasion, Chisinau is being visited by President of Romania Nicusor Dan and President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
The schedule of events dedicated to Independence Day started in the morning with the laying of flowers at the monument Grieving Mother at the Eternity Memorial Complex and at the monument to the ruler Stephen the Great and Holy. The evening will culminate with a concert featuring local artists.
Events dedicated to the 35 years of independence will take place in the capital and across the entire country throughout the day.
The Republic of Moldova proclaimed its independence on August 27, 1991, when the parliament adopted the Declaration of Independence.
