VIDEO // Teachers’ salaries to increase by up to 25 per cent as of January 1, 2027; Moldovan education minister announces monthly payments of one thousand lei until then
Teachers’ salaries in will increase by between 11and 25 per cent in Moldova starting from January 1, 2027. Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun has made statements to this effect during the show, Me and the European Union, broadcast on the public television channel Moldova 1.
According to the minister, until the salary increases are implemented, teachers will receive one‑off payments of 1,000 lei net per month for a full teaching load.
Dan Perciun explained that the salary increase could not be applied starting September 1, 2026, as previously announced by the authorities. The reason is that the amendment of the Law on Remuneration in the Budgetary Sector affects not only teaching staff, but the entire public sector, which required additional discussions.
“The remuneration law in the budgetary sector does not target only teaching staff and more discussions were needed,” said Dan Perciun.
The minister specified that, despite the postponement of the actual increase until the beginning of next year, the authorities have provided for a mechanism of monthly payments for teachers.
Thus, teaching staff will receive 1,000 lei net per month for a full teaching load, until the new salary levels come into force.
Starting from January 1, 2027, the announced increase will range between 11 and 25 per cent, depending on the teacher’s category and pay level.
The measure is presented by the Education and Research Ministry as one of the actions aimed at enhancing the attractiveness of the teaching profession and supporting staff in the education system.
