VIDEO // Six associations to get grants for supporting active aging projects

Six NGOs will receive grants to support active aging projects. The initiatives are to be implemented in several localities across the country, with a total value of 1 million lei, funded from the state budget.

The grant certificate awarding event was held today in Chișinău. Present at the ceremony, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu emphasized that a government priority is caring for the elderly, who "have raised this country."

"We aim to increase pensions, provide support through compensation programs, allowances, and one-off payments. It is important that the state pension ensures a decent living. Another priority is social assistance for the elderly who need care, are at risk, or are alone. Thus, in the last year, access to this service was increased. Social workers visit 16,000 elderly in the country, 1,500 of whom are new beneficiaries. The elderly benefit from care and communication services," said Alexei Buzu.

The Minister added that another priority for the Government is promoting active aging, where seniors are engaged in decision-making processes.

"It is important that the elderly are active in the community, engaged in cultural and sports activities, decision-making processes, and present in the digital world. Through the third-age university, 250 elderly people have successfully completed their studies. Also, 2,000 seniors have developed digital skills, and 500 received phones with internet access," stated Alexei Buzu.

Referring to the implementation of active and healthy aging projects, Alexei Buzu mentioned that 46 organizations participated in this year's edition.

MP Maria Pancu also attended the grant certificate awarding event. She stated that seniors in the Republic of Moldova have become more active and involved in the social sphere.

The beneficiary organizations are: Local Action Group Association "Plaiul Codrilor," Non-Governmental Association "Casmed," Religious Community Orthodox Parish "Saint Dumitru" under the Metropolis of Bessarabia, Non-Governmental Association "Valea Dragă," Non-Governmental Association "Plai," and Non-Governmental Association Center for History, Culture and Community Development "Ghiocel de Cărbuna."

According to the National Statistics Bureau, over 421,000 people aged over 65 live in the Republic of Moldova.
