Interferon medication, unavailable at Oncology Institute from Chisinau, to be available as of September 15, Health Ministry says
Interferon alfa-2b will be available at the Oncology Institute starting from September 15 for patients who need this treatment.
According to the Health Ministry, interferon alfa-2b is a medication with immunomodulatory and antitumor effects. It is not a first-line treatment for most cancers, but it is used for certain oncological and hematological conditions, in well-defined clinical situations and exclusively upon the recommendation of an oncologist or hematologist.
The medication was temporarily unavailable, because of the supplier's failure to fulfill its contractual obligations.
The Health Ministry informs that it is also analyzing mechanisms for the procurement and delivery of medicines. In July, the government approved the concept and regulations for the Information System for Monitoring Medicine Stocks. Once implemented, the system will allow the risk of stock depletion to be identified earlier and enable action to prevent similar situations.
The Health Ministry emphasizes that ensuring continuity of treatment is a priority and that the risk of a medicine shortage must be identified and managed as early as possible.
