Ungheni residents celebrated Dedication Day on August 28 with a festive program that brought together guests from across the country and abroad, as well as representatives of local public authorities. Speaker Igor Grosu congratulated Ungheni residents and emphasized the city’s role as the “gateway to the west” of the Republic of Moldova.

“Happy Feast Day, Ungheni, a beautiful city. I always return here with joy. Our city on the Prut once again reconfirms its reputation as the gateway to the west of the Republic of Moldova,” said Grosu.

A highlight of the celebration was when Igor Grosu handed the “For Democracy” medal, Parliament's highest honor, to mayor of Cluj-Napoca Emil Boc. The award was granted as a sign of appreciation for the constant support for Ungheni and the Republic of Moldova. Ungheni and Cluj-Napoca have been twinned cities for ten years.

“I was glad to be with Ungheni residents at this celebration, during which I handed Parliament's highest honor, Democracy Medal, to mayor of Cluj-Napoca Emil Boc,  in recognition for the friendship and constant support for Ungheni and the Republic of Moldova. Thanks to Cluj-Napoca, two municipal parks have been renovated in Ungheni, urban transport has been modernized, and currently work is underway, for the first time, to modernize Delia Lake waterfront in the city. We welcome and support such partnerships, which not only improve the infrastructure of our cities but also bring even closer together the localities on both banks of the Prut,” said Igor Grosu.

Emil Boc conveyed a message about the European path of the Republic of Moldova and Romania.

“May our two countries meet again together at home in the European Union. Let us build as many opportunities as possible for our young people and give them as many reasons as possible to stay at home and to return home,” Cluj-Napoca mayor said.

This year, Ungheni expanded its cooperation relations with localities in Romania by signing a twinning agreement with the municipality of Tulcea. This new twinning adds to the existing partnerships with other localities across the Prut.

The events were also attended by the mayors of Tulcea, Reghin, and Joniskis from Lithuania. The local leaders also took part in a discussion panel within the International Youth Conference, where they spoke about democracy and its benefits.

Ungheni mayor Vitalie Vrabie thanked residents for participating in the events and urged them to remain involved in the development of the community.

“Through the joy, sincere emotions, and exceptional hospitality you showed to our guests, you have once again demonstrated that Ungheni is a united, welcoming, and well-organized community. I urge you to always cherish our city, to carry its name with dignity and pride, to present with pride the achievements that belong to us all, and at the same time to remain focused on the projects that are being implemented,” said Vitalie Vrabie.

Ungheni Dedication Day was marked by an extensive cultural and artistic program, which concluded with a concert dedicated to the residents and guests of the city.
