Deputy PM for reintegration has meeting with new Head of OSCE Mission to Moldova

Chisinau, September 2, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri has had a meeting with new Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Christopher W. Smith, who received congratulatory messages and wishes for success in carrying out his entrusted mandate.

The officials reviewed the current state of affairs in the Transnistrian settlement process, the dynamics of dialogue within the existing interaction formats between Chisinau and Tiraspol, the most pressing issues concerning residents on both banks of the Dniester, as well as the government’s priorities in implementing the country’s reintegration policies.

Valeriu Chiveri reaffirmed the commitment to promoting a peaceful, sustainable and comprehensive settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, based on respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova, within its internationally recognized borders.

The deputy PM for reintegration referred to the constant efforts undertaken by the authorities of Moldova to provide high-quality and efficient public services to residents of the country’s eastern districts, delivered through the competent territorial subdivisions on the right bank of the Dniester, as well as to restore unified national systems in all areas: social, economic, fiscal, customs, educational, and others. In the context, Valeriu Chiveri was emphasized that the mechanisms for the gradual harmonization of customs, fiscal and budgetary taxes, which will be accumulated in the Convergence Fund and whose beneficiaries are citizens of Moldova residing in the Transnistrian region, would contribute to more advanced social and economic reintegration and to eliminating development gaps between the two banks. Attention was also drawn to the need to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms in the region.

The interlocutors expressed their readiness to maintain interactive communication and stay permanently connected to the most pressing problems faced by citizens on both banks of the Dniester, with a view to identifying the necessary solutions.
