Customs Service marks 35th anniversary of establishment

The Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova is marking 35 years since its establishment today. The occasion also marks Customs Officer’s Professional Day.

According to the institution, marking this day is an opportunity to recognize the work of customs officers, as well as to reaffirm the shared commitment to consolidating a modern and European customs authority serving citizens, the economy, and the Republic of Moldova.

The customs authority will mark the occasion with a ceremony held at the institution’s headquarters. The event will be attended by Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Vasile Tofan, Minister of Finance Victoria Belous, Director of the Customs Service Radu Vrabie, representatives of public authorities, the institution’s national and international partners, as well as veterans and former heads of the Customs Service.

The history of the customs system of the Republic of Moldova began on September 4, 1991, following the proclamation of the state’s independence and sovereignty. The first Customs Code—the fundamental legislative act regulating the organizational principles and activities of the customs system—was adopted on March 9, 1993. In October 1994, the Republic of Moldova became a full member of the World Customs Organization. Currently, approximately 1,500 officers work within the Customs Service.
