President meets with Ambassador of Turkey at end of term
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met today with Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Moldova Uygar Mustafa Sertel, who is concluding his diplomatic mission in Chișinău.
The discussions focused on an assessment of bilateral relations over the past several years. The parties noted the growth in trade, which has exceeded one billion dollars, and discussed the potential for doubling this figure, as well as opportunities for Turkish companies in the Republic of Moldova, including in major infrastructure and energy projects. Cooperation in the areas of defense and security was also addressed.
A separate part of the discussion focused on Gagauzia. Both sides expressed their commitment to the region’s development and emphasized the importance of the autonomy elections scheduled for November 15, which should bring to office leaders who will work for the benefit of citizens—for the region’s economic development and the preservation of the Gagauz language and culture.
The President thanked the Ambassador for his work in Chișinău and for his contribution to strengthening bilateral relations, as well as Türkiye for the projects implemented in the Republic of Moldova, including in Gagauzia.
