Minister of Justice: Vladimir Plahotniuc to be held in separate cell at Penitentiary No. 13

Former democratic leader Vladimir Plahotniuc, involved in several criminal cases is expected to arrive in Chișinău tomorrow morning, announced Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru. According to her, the operational part of the extradition - transport and logistics is managed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with Interpol.

"The Ministry of Justice has ensured all necessary preparations regarding detention conditions, including placement in Penitentiary 13," the minister said.

Asked in what type of cell he will be placed, Mihailov-Moraru said "all citizens subject to preventive measures benefit from the same procedures, according to the law". However, based on the Execution Code, Article 205, individuals who have held public positions are placed separately, for security reasons.

Referring to the fact that the extradition was initially suspended, the minister stated that she does not know the exact reasons, but emphasized that "what is important is that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova have mobilized and made all necessary efforts for the procedure to be completed".

Vladimir Plahotniuc was detained on July 22, in Athens, along with former democrat Constantin Țuțu. He is accused in several criminal cases, including creating and leading a criminal organization, fraud, and money laundering.
