Moldovan National Anticorruption Centre conducts searches in Chisinau, Orhei, southern region in file on illegal financing of political parties, electoral corruption

Officers from the National Anticorruption Center (CNA), in collaboration with the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office, today morning conducted searches in the municipalities of Chisinau and Orhei, as well as southern Moldova, in a criminal file on the illegal financing of political parties, money laundering corrupting voters. As a result of the actions, one person has been detained, suspected of involvement in the crimes.

According to the CNA, the investigations target an organized group made up of  decision-makers, members and sympathizers of political formations, who are alleged to have implemented a criminal plan on the period leading up to the parliamentary elections due on September 28, 2025. This plan involved recruiting and bribing voters by offering money, goods or services, in order to influence the way they exercised their electoral rights. The activities were coordinated through online applications, including accounts on the Telegram platform.

During the raids, law enforcement officers seized significant sums of money in various currencies, electronic devices, rough copies and other relevant evidence. The detained person is to be placed in the CNA's pre-trial detention facility.

According to the investigation materials, members of the group would have participated in the transfer and disguise of the origin of financial resources coming from illicit sources, using bank accounts and electronic wallets, including from abroad. The money was illegally introduced into Moldova and subsequently used for financing political activities, contrary to the legislation in force.

The CNA reminds citizens that they can report electoral corruption cases to the Hotline (+373 78 710 116, available 24/24) or the National Anticorruption Line (0800 55555, free call in Moldova).
