Romania provides new batch of equipment and materials for Dniester River response

Romania is providing the Republic of Moldova with a new batch of equipment and materials to manage the situation caused by the pollution of the Dniester River.

Minister of Environment Gheorghe Hajder thanked the Romanian partners for the support.

“New equipment and materials from Romania are heading to the Dniester right now! Thank you, Romania!”, said Hajder.

This is the fourth batch of assistance offered by Romania in the context of the Dniester pollution crisis, as part of joint efforts to protect the environment and reduce risks for the population.

Several localities in the north of the country, including the municipality of Bălți and the districts of Soroca, Sîngerei, and Florești were left without drinking water for several days following the pollution of the Dniester River with petroleum substances. The pollution of the Dniester occurred due to the Russian attack on the Dniester Hydropower Complex in Ukraine during the night of March 6 to 7, when explosions caused discharges of technical oils and petroleum products into the water.
