Moldova strengthens regional cooperation in hydrometeorology
A Moldovan-Ukrainian workshop on regional cooperation in the hydrometeorology was held today in Chisinau, organized with the support of the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI), in collaboration with the State Hydrometeorological Service of the Republic of Moldova (SHS).
The event brought together representatives of the hydrometeorological services from the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, partner institutions from Finland, Sweden and Lithuania, as well as the European Union Delegation. Participants reconfirmed the support for national authorities in actions to strengthen regional cooperation in hydrometeorology.
A key highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the State Hydrometeorological Service of the Republic of Moldova and the Finnish Meteorological Institute. The document establishes a strategic framework for bilateral cooperation in meteorology, climatology and atmospheric pollutant dispersion, aiming at modernizing infrastructure, developing new services and products, exchanging expertise and attracting funding for joint projects.
“Participants analyzed recent developments in the meteorological and hydrological sector, assessed the development needs of services in the region, and identified concrete opportunities for future initiatives, including potential donors and funding avenues. Through this initiative, SHS reconfirms its commitment to international cooperation and to developing a high-performance hydrometeorological system, capable of effectively responding to climate challenges in the region,” the State Hydrometeorological Service said.
