Moldovan capital to benefit from European grants for modernizing heating system

Moldova will receive a non-refundable funding of over 39.54 million euros for the modernization of the energy infrastructure of Chișinău. Parliament ratified today two grant agreements signed with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) under Optimization of Chişinău's centralized heat supply system project.

The first agreement provides a grant of 24.54 million euros, offered through the European Commission's Neighbourhood Investment Platform. The second agreement secures an additional grant of 15 million euros from the Eastern European Partnership Regional Fund.

The project has a total budget of 326 million euros, financed through combined support - grants and loans - from the EBRD and the European Investment Bank, which previously offered a loan of 143.5 million euros.

According to relevant authorities, the modernization of the infrastructure will contribute to lowering costs for consumers and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and atmospheric pollutants.
