Nicușor Dan: First country he wishes to visit as head of state - Moldova

Newly elected President of Romania Nicușor Dan said that the first country he would like to visit as head of state is the Republic of Moldova. According to him, such a decision has a symbolic significance.

“Republic of Moldova, Brussels or Washington, depending on needs. I would very much like the Republic of Moldova because it is symbolic, but if emergencies arise, one or the other of the alternatives,” Nicușor Dan told the Romanian press.

After Nicușor Dan's victory, President Maia Sandu conveyed a congratulatory message noting “the strong bridges between Chișinău and Bucharest.”

“I congratulated Nicușor Dan for the trust given by the Romanian citizens. I also conveyed that he can count on the Republic of Moldova. I am convinced that we will continue to strengthen the strong bridges between Chișinău and Bucharest for a secure, free, and prosperous future for the people on both sides of the Prut,” said Maia Sandu.

In the Republic of Moldova, over 158,000 Romanians voted in the Romanian presidential elections, marking a historic voter turnout. For comparison, in the first round of the presidential elections in Romania, about 91,000 Moldovans with Romanian citizenship exercised their right to vote over three days.

The majority of voters cast their vote for independent candidate Nicușor Dan. He picked up 88% or 138,320 of the votes cast by voters from our country. AUR party candidate George Simion received 18,868 votes cast in our country, or 12%.

Voters from the Republic of Moldova were among the most active in the Romanian presidential election, alongside those from countries such as Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and Spain.

The Constitutional Court of Romania validated the presidential election results today.
