President: We aim for average salary in education to reach level of average economy salary by 2030
The authorities aim to have the average salary in education reach the level of the average economy salary by 2030. Head of state Maia Sandu made the statement today. She participated in the opening of the Education Week.
The president emphasized that the initiative not only aims to recognize the value of the work done by teachers and educators, but is also a signal that we are striving for excellence in classrooms and that we want to restore the status they deserve in society to those working in this sector.
“We know very well that we cannot talk about quality education without well-prepared, supported, and appreciated teachers, including through a salary that reflects the social importance of their work. Therefore, we aim by 2030 for the average salary in education to reach the level of the average economy salary. Not only as recognition of the value of the work of teachers, educators, and school staff, but also as a signal that we want excellence in classrooms and that we wish to restore the status they deserve in society,” said the head of state.
Maia Sandu also added that in the transformative process our country is going through, and implicitly the educational system, teachers are the ones who make the difference, and thanked the teaching staff for their daily work.
The Education Week was launched in Chisinau—a large-scale event with thousands of participants, dedicated to the most significant transformations in the field of education. This initiative is being held for the second consecutive year and on May 22-25, several events dedicated to the challenges and opportunities in the educational system will be organized.
