Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister in dialogue with Ukrainian refugees in Moldova

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for National Unity of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernyshov visited the Ukrainian House in Chisinau, where he discussed with members of the Ukrainian community in the Republic of Moldova. The visit aimed at strengthening the connection between the Ukrainian Government and its citizens temporarily outside the borders, as well as familiarizing with projects dedicated to supporting refugees.

During the meeting, Ukrainian government officials, representatives of the Ukrainian Embassy in Moldova, and around 70 community members participated, including volunteers, entrepreneurs, teachers, refugees, and ethnic Ukrainians in Moldova.

“Even while being abroad, Ukrainians remain part of our Ukrainian community. Our task is to stay connected and be useful to our people, regardless of their short-term or long-term plans. We work to ensure that every Ukrainian feels supported, and the connection with the Homeland remains alive and strong,” he said.

Topics discussed included access to information and public services from Ukraine, recognition of official documents, record of work seniority obtained outside the country, and support for families with children with special educational needs.

The delegation also familiarized itself with the activities of the Ukrainian House, a project launched by the National Congress of Ukrainians in Moldova in 2023, which runs educational, cultural, and social integration programs for refugees and ethnic Ukrainians.

Ambassador of Ukraine to Chisinau Paun Rogovei appreciated the efforts of local partners in promoting cohesion and supporting displaced persons.

According to UNHCR data, currently, there are over 123,000 Ukrainian refugees in the Republic of Moldova. Also, the 2024 census shows that around 118,000 citizens of the Republic of Moldova identify as ethnic Ukrainians.
