Moldovan citizens residing in Canadian province of Quebec to be able to receive pensions, other social benefits
Moldovan citizens residing in the Canadian province of Quebec will be able to receive pensions and other social benefits. The government today approved the decision on initiating negotiations and approving the signing of the Administrative Arrangement for the implementation of the Agreement between the governments of Moldova and of Quebec in the field of social security.
The initiative comes from the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection (MMPS) and aims to ensure social rights for migrant workers who are working or have worked professionally and reside on the territory of Moldova or Quebec.
Under this agreement, citizens will have access to old-age pensions, disability pensions caused by general illnesses or work-related accidents, occupational pensions and survivor’s pensions.
“The administrative arrangement is a technical process through which the mechanisms of cooperation between institutions and the procedures for applying the provisions of the agreement are established. By this, we protect the social rights of persons who have carried out legal work activities on the territory of both states. At present, about 15,000 citizens of Moldova live in Quebec and will be able to directly benefit from the provisions of this agreement,” said Secretary General of MPMS Dumitru Pislaru.
The decision approved by the government enters into force on the date of its publication in the Official Journal.
So far, Moldova has signed social security agreements with 23 states, of which 18 have entered into force and are applicable. It is about: Romania, Bulgaria, Portugal, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Austria, Estonia, the Czech Republic, the Kingdom of Belgium, Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, Germany, Turkey, Belarus, Italy, Greece, Spain and Latvia.
