€40 million investments in school modernization: 20 institutions to be renovated

A total of 20 model schools in rural areas will be modernized with an investment of 40 million euros. The funds are provided by the European Investment Bank. Members of the Parliament’s Foreign Policy Committee have approved the advisory opinion on initiating negotiations for contracting the loan.

As a result, the 20 educational institutions will benefit from better conditions for carrying out the educational process, through the creation of modern, safe, accessible, and inclusive spaces, adapted to the current needs of students and teachers. The planned investments target energy efficiency, digitalization, and the reconfiguration of educational spaces over an area of more than 200,000 m². These measures will improve study conditions, increase the attractiveness of schools, and facilitate access to quality education, particularly for children from disadvantaged communities.

In addition to the loan, the project will benefit from a 2 million euro grant provided through the Neighbourhood Investment Platform (NIP), as well as an 8 million euro contribution from the Republic of Moldova. The agreement will enter into force after it is ratified by Parliament.

The Model Schools Network is a strategic program of the Ministry of Education and Research, launched in 2023, which aims to transform the selected schools into true examples of good practice – both through modern infrastructure and through innovative teaching methods.
