Nicolae Testemitanu Medical University of Moldova hosts first edition of conference on management of antimicrobials' use in tuberculosis

The Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF) on June 8-9 is hosting the first edition of the conference on the management of antimicrobials’ use in tuberculosis. The event is dedicated to strengthening measures to combat antimicrobial resistance in tuberculosis.

The meeting is organized by the European network TBnet (Tuberculosis Network European Trials Group), in collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for Europe, USMF Nicolae Testemitanu, the Research Center Borstel – Leibniz Lung Center of Germany and other renowned international partners in the field of public health and tuberculosis control.

The conference brings together experts, researchers, clinicians and decision-makers from numerous countries of the WHO European Region, in order to analyze the challenges posed by drug-resistant tuberculosis and to identify practical solutions for implementing international standards of antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) in tuberculosis management.

The conference's agenda includes sessions dedicated to the epidemiology of drug-resistant tuberculosis, mechanisms of resistance development to treatment, international clinical standards on AMS in tuberculosis, and the results of a regional survey on their implementation. The participants will also take part in topic-related workshops and working groups aimed at developing concrete recommendations and interventions, in order to strengthen AMS practices in the countries of the WHO European Region.

The meeting will be attended by representatives of the World Health Organization, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID), the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF), the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, as well as prestigious academic and medical institutions from across Europe.
