EUROPEAN VILLAGE // Over 27 million lei invested in modernizing infrastructure in central Moldova settlement
Over 27 million lei has been invested in developing the infrastructure of Sarata Galbena commune, central Hancesti district, through the government programmes European Village and Europe is Close. The funds were directed towards extending the sewage system and modernizing road infrastructure, projects that will improve living conditions for around 4,500 residents of the commune.
One of the projects implemented under the first edition of the European Village National Programme focused on building 2.6 kilometers of sewage networks, installing a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 50 cubic meters, and constructing 92 inspection manholes. For its implementation, over 7.1 million lei was allocated from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development (FNDRL), supplemented by a contribution of approximately 933 thousand lei from local authorities.
As a result of the works, 11 public institutions in the locality have been connected to the centralized sewage system, including the “Albinuța” kindergarten, the mayoralty, the Community Centre, the School of Arts, the post office, and the police station. In addition, about 70 households and three economic agents have been connected to the network, with the number of direct beneficiaries exceeding 800 people.
To further expand access to sanitation services, local authorities also got financing through the second edition of the European Village Programme. Under the project, Evacuation and Treatment of Wastewater in Sarata Galbena Village, Stage II, launched in October 2025, the sewage network is being extended by another four kilometers.
The works, which are to be completed by the end of June, will allow the connection of over 350 households with approximately 1,200 residents. The Theoretical Lyceum “Universum”, the Human Resources Center, the “Petrocub” Football Academy Stadium and four economic agents will also be connected to the centralized system. The investment amounts to about 8.77 million lei, allocated from the state budget through the FNDRL.
The mayor of Sarata Galbena commune, Mihail Lozovoi, said that the investments contributed to improving quality of life, protecting the environment and reducing public health risks. According to him, almost all public institutions and about 40 percent of the commune’s households already benefit from centralized sewage infrastructure.
In parallel, road infrastructure rehabilitation works are underway in the locality through the government’s Europe is Close Programme. The project provides for the modernization of an 840-meter section of Iurii Gagarin Street, the construction of 1,680 meters of sidewalks, the application of road markings and the installation of traffic signs.
The total value of the investment is approximately 10 million lei, of which over 8.9 million lei is allocated from the state budget. The works are scheduled to be completed by August 1.
According to local authorities, the rehabilitated road ensures connection with the national route R34 and with more economic units in the area. Its modernization will facilitate access to public institutions, reduce dust levels and contribute to the economic development of the locality.
In total, the investments made and those under implementation will benefit approximately 4,500 residents of Sarata Galbena commune and its component villages Bratianovca, Carpineanca, Coroliovca, and Valea Florii.
