Over half a million passengers at Eugen Doga International Airport – Chisinau in last May: most popular destinations
The number of passengers served by the Eugen Doga International Airport – Chisinau is recording a steady increase. The last May ended with a new remarkable result of 538,125 people served by the airport, an increase of 42,307 compared to the same period of the year before.
The most dynamic growth was recorded on routes to Yerevan, Barcelona, Larnaca, Berlin, Brussels, Prague and Athens. According to the Airport’s Administration, these destinations generated the most significant traffic increases compared to May last year, showing passengers’ growing interest in business travel, city breaks and international connections.
Also in May, newly launched destinations attracted 25,431 passengers, contributing to the expansion of travel options and to strengthening Moldova’s connectivity with Europe and the Mediterranean region. The most in-demand new destinations were Bratislava, Wroclaw, Naples, Copenhagen, Sofia and Alicante.
On the same period, 220.1 tons of cargo were transported.
The Eugen Doga International Airport – Chisinau returned to state management in the spring of 2023. The authorities have earlier announced the modernization of airport’s infrastructure and the attraction of investments to enhance capacity and services’ quality, under a state-managed regime that is transparent and focused on the public interest.
At present, it ranks among the best-performing airports in Europe in the category of 1–10 million passengers per year. Growth is supported by the expansion of the routes’ network and the number of airlines, which increased from 20 in 2022 to 33 in 2024.
