Romanian language teachers of Moldova to benefit from intensive training courses organized in Romania
A group of 35 teachers of Romanian language and literature from Taraclia district and the Balti municipality will take part in intensive training courses organized in Romania. The opportunity is offered within a programme, now at its third edition, organized by Moldova’s Education and Research Ministry (MEC) and the Embassy of Romania in Chisinau, with the support of Romania’s Ministry of Education.
The teachers will attend courses held at the West University of Timisoara and the University of Oradea, thus benefiting from the opportunity to improve their Romanian language skills.
Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun has said that the authorities were making constant efforts to enhance the quality of Romanian language teaching in schools, especially in those with instruction in the languages of national minorities. He thanked Romania for the support and opportunity offered to teachers from Moldova.
“I wish you a rich and rewarding experience. It is a remarkable opportunity. Every time, our teachers have been received with great warmth by the universities of Romania and the communities they have met. It is a chance to discover Romania – a sister country and a strategic partner for Moldova,” the minister said at a news conference launching the Programme.
He also praised the efforts of Romanian language teachers from educational institutions with Russian as instruction language ensure that Romanian is spoken correctly and highlighted the initiatives launched in recent years by the authorities to support them.
“I want to thank you for the effort you are making. With the support and involvement of each of you, we make it possible for all citizens of Moldova to speak Romanian well and correctly and to share a common communication environment. This is extremely important, first and foremost for our resilience as a society, for our ability to act together as citizens of Moldova. Language is a tool through which we all belong to the same linguistic and cultural space, and this is obviously fundamental and essential. It is critical that we can communicate in the same language and feel that we are all part of this nation,” the education minister underlined.
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Romania to Moldova Cristian-Leon Turcanu emphasized that more than 300 teachers from Moldova had benefited so far from this programme, which has now reached its third edition.
“We mark the start of the third edition of the intensive Romanian language course programme, from which more than 300 teachers of schools with instruction in the languages of national minorities have already benefited. We are proud that this programme was launched in 2024 at the initiative of our embassy. From the very beginning, the programme received strong support from the two Education Ministries on both banks of the Prut, as well as from the seven partner universities in Romania. However, the main merit for the continuation of these intensive courses in Romania belongs to you, the Romanian language teachers. Without your enthusiasm, determination and courage, this programme could not have continued. The programme has evolved over these two years, and it is encouraging that it has expanded to most districts of Moldova. I have noticed the growing interest in learning Romanian among citizens whose mother tongue is Gagauz, Bulgarian, Russian or Ukrainian,” said Cristian-Leon Turcanu.
The ambassador highlighted the importance of this Programme in the context of the shared responsibility “to guide generations of young people who can find themselves in the cultural and linguistic diversity of the European space, of which Moldova is an integral part.”
“Why is this programme important? Because it is important to know each other, to understand each other and to build together an inclusive society, in which we have equal chances for education and job opportunities. We share a common responsibility to guide generations of young people who can find themselves in the cultural and linguistic diversity of the European space, of which Moldova is an integral part. Without a doubt, the value of this intensive training course also lies in the direct contact you will have with your colleagues from the other side of the Prut. Strong friendships will be formed, and linguistic immersion will have a beneficial effect both on strengthening your professional training and on increasing your level of motivation and confidence in your own abilities,” emphasized Ambassador Cristian-Leon Turcanu.
Natalia Marciuc is a teacher at the Gymnasium in the town of Taraclia and one of this year’s beneficiaries of the programme.
“This trip will represent a valuable experience for our professional and personal development. We look forward to the exchange of experience with specialists from Romania and to engaging with the Romanian educational and cultural environment. At the same time, we are convinced that this experience will motivate us to promote the Romanian language even more actively in the institutions where we teach. We thank you for the support and for the trust placed in Romanian language teachers,” said Natalia Marciuc.
Another beneficiary of the programme is Olga Pascari from Maxim Gorky Theoretical Lyceum from the Balti municipality.
“We set off with positive emotions and the desire to learn, to improve our Romanian language skills and to gather nice experiences. We thank you for your support, trust and hospitality. We are happy to be part of this project and we are convinced that this experience will inspire us and enrich us professionally,” stated Olga Pascari.
The first edition of the Programme was organized in the summer of 2024, when more than 100 Romanian language teachers from the Autonomous territorial Unit of Gagauzia, the districts of Taraclia and Dubasari, as well as the Balti municipality benefited from training courses at various universities of Romania. At the 2025 edition, another 205 teachers became beneficiaries of the Programme. Thus, so far, 312 Romanian language and literature teachers of Moldova have benefited from these training courses.
According to MEC’s data, about 900 Romanian language teachers are employed in the education system of Moldova, teaching at 255 non-Romanian-language (allophone) schools.
