Firefighters and rescuers in the Republic of Moldova today received the first donation of equipment under the project Danish Initiative for Civil Protection in Moldova 2025–2028. The batch was received by the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and includes self-contained breathing apparatus and individual protective equipment.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the donation includes 150 self-contained breathing apparatus for firefighters, equipped with spare parts and testing stands, as well as 220 sets of individual protective equipment. The new gear is intended to increase the level of personal protection during complex interventions, reduce occupational risks, and align with European standards on occupational safety and health, especially in the case of fires, industrial accidents, or emergency situations involving hazardous substances.

The official event took place in the presence of Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to the Republic of Moldova Søren Jensen and the project manager from the Danish Emergency Management Agency, Simone Christerson Gundtoft.

“The safety of citizens remains our priority. Every investment in civil protection means lives saved, more resilient communities, and greater trust in state institutions. Our firefighters and rescuers are becoming better prepared, more specialized, and more capable of responding promptly and professionally in any situation,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs.

The project is financed by the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark and implemented by the Danish Emergency Management Agency, in partnership with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and IGSU. During its implementation, in the period 2025–2028, firefighters and rescuers will benefit from specialized equipment, training, and access to Danish expertise in the field of civil protection.

The program aims to strengthen capacities for prevention and rapid response to emergency situations, improve intervention planning, develop early warning and risk assessment mechanisms, and enhance inter-institutional coordination in crisis management.
