Romanian Ambassador: Support for Ukraine means stability and European future

Romania reaffirms its solidarity with the Ukrainian people, who continue to bravely defend freedom, sovereignty and European democratic values, Romanian Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Cristian-Leon Țurcanu said. The official emphasized that support for Ukraine remains steadfast, and the desired peace must be a just one, based on respect for international law.

“From the very first day, Romania has stood by Ukraine and its citizens, providing constant humanitarian, logistical and political support. We will continue to support Ukraine for as long as it is needed, in close coordination with our European and Euro-Atlantic partners, so that the peace that follows will be just, lasting and based on full respect for international law,” said Cristian-Leon Țurcanu.

The diplomat also referred to the impact of the conflict on the region.

“Over these four years, the consequences of the war have been directly felt in the Republic of Moldova as well. Despite the difficulties caused by the regional security context, the Republic of Moldova has demonstrated solidarity, responsibility, and a remarkable capacity for resilience,” he added.

According to the official, Romania has stood by and continues to stand by the Republic of Moldova, supporting the strengthening of energy security, the development of infrastructure, the consolidation of democratic institutions, and its European path.

“Today, more than ever, support for Ukraine and the strengthening Moldova’s resilience represent direct investments in the stability and our shared European future,” the ambassador said.

Ukraine was attacked by the Russian Federation on 24 February 2022. Since the beginning of the war, the Republic of Moldova has received the highest number of Ukrainian refugees per capita in Europe. During the period, refugees have benefited in our country from social, medical, and educational assistance, as well as the possibility to enter the labor market.
