President Maia Sandu has signed the decree on the conscription of young people for standard and reduced-term military service in the National Army, for the period April–July 2026. The presidential decree was published today in the Official Journal of the Republic of Moldova.

According to the document, men who are citizens of the Republic of Moldova, who have reached the age of 18 and who do not benefit from the right to deferment of conscription or exemption from standard or reduced-term military service will be drafted into military service.

The Government will determine the necessary number of recruits to be incorporated into the National Army and will develop the organizational measures to ensure the process.

The document also stipulates that, during the period April–July 2026, conscripts who have completed the standard military service will be discharged and transferred to the reserve. At the same time, in April 2026, those who have completed their reduced-term military service will be discharged and transferred to the reserve.

This decree enters into force upon the publication in the Official Journal.

The conscription process takes place twice a year, according to the schedule set by the Ministry of Defense – during April–July and October–January.
