Speaker Igor Grosu was on a working visit today to Cahul district, and inspected a recently renovated road – a project residents have been waiting for over 45 years. The upgraded section connects the localities of Borceag, Chioselia Mare, Frumușica, Chioselia Rusă, Cîietu and Dimitrova, improving access and mobility for citizens in southern Moldova.

“Today, on the way to the meeting with citizens in Frumușica, Cahul district, I traveled on a new road, one that hadn't been repaired for over 45 years. Now, the localities Borceag, Chioselia Mare, Frumușica, Chioselia Rusă, Cîietu and Dimitrova have a good access road, long-awaited by their residents,” Grosu said.

The route also includes Vulcănești–Chișinău high voltage power line, symbolically called the “line of energy independence” – a strategic project to connect the Republic of Moldova to the European energy network through Romania.

“By the end of the year, this major project for our energy future is planned to be completed – the line will allow us to connect to the European energy market through Romania and to permanently escape dependence on a single energy source,” he said.

Grosu reiterated the authorities' commitment to the continuous modernization of the country's strategic infrastructure.

“Gradually, with patience and a lot of work, we are building roads, hospitals, schools and power networks – all meant to pave our way to the European Union.”

Cahul district comprises 55 localities, including the municipality of Cahul and the village of Cotihana, over an area of 1,545 km². The total population is estimated at 124,600 inhabitants, which is about 3.5% of the entire population of the Republic of Moldova.
