Moldova and Ukraine extend bilateral and transit transport liberalization agreement

The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine have decided to extend the bilateral and transit transport liberalization agreement by late 2027.

The decision was announced by State Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development Mircea Păscăluță, following discussions with his Ukrainian counterpart, Serhiy Derkach.

“We first signed this agreement in 2022, in a crisis context, as a solidarity and pragmatic response. Today, we confidently extend it based on concrete results: doubled trade relations and an increase in goods flow. The Republic of Moldova is becoming more visible on the EU's logistics map. We have a proactive approach and are ready not only to be the transit country of today but also a future regional connectivity hub,” said Păscăluță.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development emphasized that the liberalization of bilateral and transit transport reduces bureaucratic barriers, streamlines the movement of goods, and helps lower logistic costs for both Moldovan and Ukrainian economic operators.

“Through such measures, the Republic of Moldova strengthens position as a relevant regional player on the European logistics map, not just as a transit state, but also as a future regional connectivity hub between the European Union, the Black Sea region and Eastern Partnership countries,” noted MIDR.

Moldova - Ukraine agreement on road transport liberalization was signed in 2022. Among the achieved results are the doubling of trade volume and a significant increase in goods flow.
