Republic of Moldova approves legal framework for coordinating social security systems with EU member states

The Republic of Moldova is preparing the legal framework that will allow the coordination of social security systems and the electronic exchange of data with the member states of the European Union. A draft law providing for this has been approved today by the Government.

The draft creates the necessary legal framework for implementing European regulations on the coordination of social security systems and for connecting the Republic of Moldova to the Electronic Exchange of Social Security Information system (EESSI). This system enables fast, secure and efficient information exchange between the institutions responsible for social security in the EU member states, the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Minister of Labour and Social Protection Natalia Plugaru said that the approval of the legal framework will allow information regarding pensions, allowances or other social insurance benefits to be transmitted electronically between countries, under high security conditions, which will also reduce the processing time for applications for establishing these social payments.

"The draft law prepares the Republic of Moldova for the moment when we will become a member state of the European Union and will allow our institutions to exchange information quickly and securely with the institutions that coordinate social security matters in the EU member states. Through this draft, we are in fact preparing the digital connection of the Republic of Moldova with the European system, EESSI, an electronic system used by all EU member states to exchange information in the field of social security," said Natalia Plugaru.

The Minister stressed that through this initiative, the Republic of Moldova is taking an important step in the process of European integration, as well as in the modernization of public services, so that citizens benefit from faster, simpler, digital and efficient services.

Among the new provisions, the National Social Insurance House will exercise the role of liaison body in the field of social security. At the same time, the necessary prerequisites are being created for the development of the technical and institutional infrastructure that will ensure interoperability with European systems.
