Direct flights to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Government launches negotiations
Citizens will be able to benefit from direct flights from Chișinău to destinations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Cabinet today decided to launch negotiations on the draft Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on air services.
Secretary General of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development Angela Țurcanu said at the Government meeting that the signing of the agreement will help strengthen the air connectivity of the Republic of Moldova, with an impact on the increase in passenger traffic, the development of commercial and tourism opportunities, the facilitation of exports, and the consolidation of economic and diplomatic relations.
“We continue to expand the network of direct flights from Chișinău International Airport ‘Eugen Doga’ to new destinations with high potential for mobility, tourism and economic exchanges. Through the agreement presented today, we are creating the necessary legal framework for cooperation in the field of air transport between the two states, which will establish the operating rules for bilateral air services, including those related to aviation safety and security,” said Angela Țurcanu.
Chișinău International Airport “Eugen Doga” returned to state management in the spring of 2023. The authorities previously announced the modernization of airport infrastructure and the attraction of investments in order to increase capacity and service quality, under state-managed, transparent governance focused on the public interest.
Currently, it ranks among the best-performing airports in Europe in the category of 1–10 million passengers per year. Growth is supported by the expansion of the route network and the number of airlines, which has increased from 20 in 2022 to 33 in 2024.
