Round table on 30th anniversary of Transnistria War held in Moldovan capital
Chisinau, 17 June /MOLDPRES/ - The reasons for the Transnistria War from 1992, the consequences for Moldova, as well as its geopolitical impact, including through the light of the war in Ukraine, were discussed at a today’s roundtable titled, Thirty Years since Transnistria War. The event was organized by the Agency for Military Science and Military Memory (ASMM), the Alexandru cel Bun Military Academy of Armed Forces and the History Institute.
The participants believe that the premises of the conflict at Dniester had emerged started from the inter-war period, when the so-called Moldovan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (RASSM) was set up in 1924. Yet, in a more pronounced way, this occurred after the World War II, through imposing political, economic, cultural, educational, demographic and other kinds of strategies.
Thus, ASMM director Vitalie Ciobanu said that ‘’a deep analysis of all premises is necessary, in order to identify all actors who stayed at the basis of the unleashing of this war and its consequences, both for Moldova and for the region, on the whole.’’
In the context, Nicolae Enciu from the History Institute noted that ‘’the war at Dniester compromised, to a great extent, Moldova’s European integration, a fact felt both during those 30 years since the declaring of the Independence and now, when our country’s application on giving the status of country candidate for EU is to be considered.’’
A book titled, Conflictul armat de la Nistru: Bibliografie (Armed Conflict at Dniester: Bibliography) was unveiled at the event. The book was edited by the Agency for Military Science and Military Memory and the Andrei Lupan Scientific Library (Institute).
Vitalie Ciobanu also said that, this year, ASMM would present an exhibition about the Transnistria War from 1992, which is to be staged in Bucharest and Kiev. A string of teaching materials about the chronology and armed conflict at Dniester will be edited by 1 September 2022. The materials will be distributed to all education institutions of Moldova and till the end of this year, a project titled, Oral Stories about War, will be finished, in which the participants in the conflict will speak about it from the first source.
