Security partnership: Moldova, Romania develop exchange of expertise to strengthen national resilience

A delegation from the National Defence Ministry of Romania, led by State Secretary Sorin-Dan Moldovan, has paid an official visit to the Ministry of Defence of Moldova, where it held meetings with the Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatii and other high-ranking officials.

During the discussions, the sides examined the current security challenges in the region, the European integration path of Moldova and the support provided by Romania in this process, as well as the democratic reforms currently underway in Chisinau.

The officials also reviewed the results of the bilateral cooperation in the military field and the priorities for 2026.

Minister Anatolie Nosatii highlighted Romania’s contributions to modernizing the defence capabilities of Moldova through the transfer of expertise, training, joint exercises and the facilitation of the participation of military contingents in international peacekeeping missions.

The defence minister thanked Bucharest for its constant support within the international community, including on the defence dimension, and underlined the importance of maintaining political and military coordination between the two states.

The meeting’s agenda also included aspects related to strategic communication, countering hybrid threats and the need to enhance the resilience of state institutions in the current security context.

At the end, the two delegations reiterated their commitment to strengthening institutional cooperation and boosting the exchange of expertise, in order to enhance security and response capacity in the face of regional challenges.

During the visit, the Romanian officials also had a separate meeting with State Secretary Ghenadie Cojocaru, where they examined the ongoing bilateral projects and the prospects of the Moldovan-Romanian joint commission in the defence sector.
