Speaker pays tribute to artists Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici

Speaker Igor Grosu has issued a commemorative message honoring artists Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici, 34 years after their deaths. He called them symbols of the national revival, courage, dignity, and boundless love for their people and country.

“Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici – two twin hearts. It has been 34 years since we lost the symbols of our national revival, courage, dignity, and boundless love for our people and country,” Igor Grosu wrote.

The official noted that, through their songs, the two artists continue to give voice to hope and freedom, inspire entire generations, and unite the hearts of Romanians everywhere. He also urged the public to keep alive their artistic legacy and the ideals for which they lived and sang.

Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici were among the most important artists of the national revival period. Through their creations, they promoted the Romanian language, love of country, and national dignity. Their songs dedicated to mothers, the family home, and family values have also remained memorable.

Their songs, composed to lyrics by poets Grigore Vieru, Adrian Păunescu, and Ion Hadârcă, are still sung on both banks of the Prut River.

The lives of the two artists came to a tragic end on the night of October 29–30, 1992, following a road accident near the town of Coșereni, Romania. Ion and Doina were traveling to Chișinău when the car they were in crashed into a tree.

Two Twin Hearts music festival is organized in their memory, bringing together performers from several countries who reinterpret the two artists’ songs in Romanian.
