Traffic on Maiaki-Udobnoe bridge in Ukraine partially resumed

Traffic on Maiaki-Udobnoe bridge in Ukraine partially resumed this afternoon. Currently, crossing is allowed for all types of vehicles except trucks.

According to the Border Police, at the Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe and Tudora-Starokazacie Border Crossing Points (BCP), only incoming traffic into the Republic of Moldova is being processed. Departure from the Republic of Moldova is authorized only for citizens traveling to Belgorod-Dnestrovsk, Ukraine.

“To ensure citizen safety, border authorities recommend avoiding travel in this direction,” announced the Border Police.

The border crossing points with Ukraine at Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe and Tudora-Starokazacie were closed yesterday after explosive-laden drones hit the bridge over the Nistru River, located outside the Maiaki-Udobnoe locality in Ukraine around 4:00 PM.

After being inactive for four and a half hours, the Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe and Tudora-Starokazacie crossing points were reopened for travelers crossing the border toward Ukraine.

This morning, the Border Police announced that crossing the Maiaki-Udobnoe Bridge was suspended following a new drone attack. As a result, the Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe border crossing point's activity was halted on the outgoing side from the Republic of Moldova.

Under these conditions, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), together with UNHCR, provided accommodation for Ukrainian citizens whose travel to Ukraine was restricted following bombings of the Nistru Bridge. IGSU operationalized a mobile camp in the locality of Palanca to support individuals who chose to wait to cross the border on the exit side to Ukraine through the Palanca and Tudora crossing points.
