Moldovan PM in Comrat says government invested significantly in Gagauz region's development
The government has invested significantly in the development of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (UTAG), in order to improve living conditions for all residents of the region. Over the past four years, hospitals have been modernized, roads rehabilitated and wastewater treatment plants built. Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu has made statements to this effect, following a working visit to Comrat.
According to the PM approximately 51 million lei has been invested in the modernization of hospitals in Comrat, Ceadar-Lunga and Vulcanesti, with these facilities being endowed with state-of-the-art medical equipment. At the same time, the M3 Chisinau–Giurgiulesti road sector, which passes through the localities of Chirsova, Congaz and Svetlii, has been rehabilitated, and the bypass road for the city of Vulcanesti has been completed.
In the field of water and sewage infrastructure, the government has constructed two wastewater treatment plants, including one in the municipality of Comrat, two water towers and several reservoirs. Meanwhile, work has commenced on the Cahul–Vulcanesti–Alexandru Ioan Cuza main water pipeline.
Through the European Village Programme, two kindergartens and four schools have been renovated, five photovoltaic power stations were installed, four cultural centers repaired, and three sports complexes built. Additionally, potable water supply systems in more settlements of the region have been modernized.
The prime minister emphasized that the authorities support the development of bilingual education, with preschool groups created in both the Gagauz and Romanian languages in district centers, as well as an expanded Romanian language learning programme.
“These investments prove, through concrete achievements — every kilometer of repaired road, every renovated roof and every installed water pipeline — that the government fulfills its commitments and cares for all citizens, regardless of region, spoken language or political preferences,” said Alexandru Munteanu.
During meetings with mayors, local councilors, and representatives of decentralized services in the UTA Gagauzia, the PM discussed the importance of maintaining efficient cooperation between the central and local public administration, efforts to revive the economy, the benefits of European integration, and projects carried out in the region.
The prime minister noted that, due to joint efforts, more projects had been implemented in UTA Gagauzia that contributed to the modernization of localities, attraction of investments and improvement of the living standards of the Gagauz community and the residents of the Vulcanesti, Ceadar-Lunga and Comrat districts.
Also, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu visited the Multifunctional Industrial Platform in Ceadar-Lunga, currently under construction. This modern production platform will have an area of 5,200 square meters and is meant to boost the local economy, expected to create between 500 and 1,000 new jobs.
