Chisinau, 5 June /MOLDPRES/- June 5 is World Environment Day. On this occasion, during this week, the campaign It's time for Nature! was held in the Republic of Moldova, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM), the Environment Agency made public more information on the ecological situation in the country.
The theme of this year's World Environment Day is biodiversity - a call for action to combat accelerating loss and degradation of species in the natural world. One million species of plants and animals are in danger of extinction, largely due to human activities.
MADRM and its subordinate subdivisions have distributed information of public interest on importance of biodiversity for the well-being of people, as it offers services that support the economy of our society.
A video spot dedicated to this year's theme will be broadcast today, made with the support of the United Nations Development Program Moldova and the Small Grants Program of the Global Environment Facility in order to inform and raise public awareness in this regard.
"Exaggerated intentions to exploit natural resources have a negative impact on the environment and human. These phenomena are typical for Moldova, given that the environment has no borders. Our country is facing a number of environmental impact problems locally and cross-border, requiring the definition of problems and identification of causes that cause them ", MADRM said.
World Environment Day was set up in 1972 by United Nations General Assembly for celebrating Stockholm Conference on Human Ecology and is the most important element of the United Nations Environment Program. The event is marked in over one hundred countries and is an opportunity for government institutions, local administration, youth associations, NGOs, entrepreneurs, media to mobilize through joint events to draw attention to the need to protect the environment.
