Alexandru Machidon - acting Prosecutor General of Moldova

The deputy chief prosecutor of the Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS), Alexandru Machidon, is acting Prosecutor General. The decree was signed by President Maia Sandu and has come into effect.

His candidacy was proposed to the head of state by the Superior Council of Prosecutors.

For the position left vacant after former Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu took the oath as a judge at the Supreme Court of Justice, the contenders were the deputy chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office, Octavian Iachimovschi, and the deputy chief of PCCOCS, Alexandru Machidon.

Machidon's candidacy was supported at yesterday's meeting by 10 out of the 11 members of the CSP.

Alexandru Machidon has been acting as the deputy chief prosecutor of the Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases since June 10, 2024. In May 2023, he served as acting chief prosecutor of Orhei district, and in 2017 he worked as deputy chief prosecutor of Criuleni district.
