Moldovan sportspeople end European Senior Weightlifting Championship with 13 medals

The European Senior Weightlifting Championship has ended with 13 medals won by Moldovan sportspeople – four gold medals, four silver and five bronze. "It is a deep sense of pride; this is more than just an outstanding performance, it is proof that Moldova is becoming an important player on the European sports stage," said  Dan Perciun, Minister of Education and Research.

"I am proud of this generation of champions who inspire an entire country. I thank sportspeople, coaches, the National Weightlifting Federation and everyone who made this victory possible. Hosting this championship in Moldova for the first time was not just a logistical success, but a sign of trust and respect on behalf of the entire Europe. We have proved that we are a serious partner and ready to provide top conditions for large-scale competitions," Perciun also said.

According to the minister of education, the good news doesn't stop here. "Next is the ATP Tennis Tournament, equivalent to the World Championship among seniors, the European Judo Championship, U23, and the European Rugby Championship, all hosted by Moldova. We continue to invest, believe and support. Because, yes - Moldova can," Dan Perciun specified.

The European Senior Weightlifting Championship opened in Chisinau on April 12. The event took place at Arena Chisinau and brought together about 400 sportspeople from over 40 countries. Moldova for the first time hosted such a large-scale competition. The European Senior Weightlifting Championship in Chisinau is regarded as one of the most prestigious in the European sports calendar of 2025 and puts Moldova on the map of major international competitions.
