Chisinau officially kicked off European Senior Weightlifting Championships
The European Senior Weightlifting Championship was inaugurated on 12 April 12 in Chisinau. The event is taking place at the Chisinau Arena and brings together approximately 400 athletes from over 40 countries. The Republic of Moldova is hosting a competition of this magnitude for the first time.
The event is considered one of the most prestigious in the European sports calendar of 2025 and places the Republic of Moldova on the map of major international competitions. Present at the official opening of the championship, Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun highlighted the importance of this event for the Republic of Moldova.
“This moment represents an important page in the sporting history of our country. We are delighted to welcome hundreds of athletes from dozens of countries. Organizing this championship is not only an honor but also a proof of the European community's trust in our potential,” Perciun said.
For the successful organization of the competition, 6.5 million lei were allocated from the state budget. Other expenses are covered by the Weightlifting Federation and its partners. The competitions will be held on April 13-21 and will transform the capital into a true center of European weightlifting.
The organization of the European Weightlifting Championships in Chisinau marks a significant moment for promoting high-performance sports in the Republic of Moldova.
